Autism Parent Stress Index (APSI)

What is APSI?

The APSI is a validated and reliable tool specifically designed to capture the stress level of a Parent raising a child with autism. It consists of 13 questions covering three main domains:

  • Core social-communication challenges (5 questions)

    • Worries about your child’s social development, ability to communicate, getting along with others, living independently, and relating to you as a parent.

  • Co-morbid behavioural symptoms (4 questions)

    • Stress around tantrums/meltdowns, aggression, self-injury, and difficulty with changes/transitions.

  • Co-morbid physical symptoms (4 questions)

    • Concerns about sleep problems, diet issues, bowel problems, and potty training.
